Like the former footballer Mauro Bellugi and Hollywood star Nick Cordero, the well-known singer of the sixties Renato Di Giandomenico (aka Renato Doney), aged eighty-seven, died on March 22, 2021 after having his left leg amputated due to Covid.
Renato Doney, winner in 1956 and 1957 of the award BEST SINGER OF THE YEAR by the RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana conferred by the then President of the Italian Republic Giovanni Gronchi, is the protagonist until 1964 (the year of his meeting with Olga Maria Vitocco who marries in 1965, leaving the public scene forever) of the Roman "dolce vita", together with the likes of Tony Renis, Franco and Giorgio Bracardi, Fred Bongusto, Nicola Arigliano and many others.
After the death of his beloved wife Olga Maria in 2012 due to an incurable disease, Renato Doney, in 2016, returned in style to the stage at the La Triennale theater in Milan with the Civica Jazz Band directed by Enrico Intra, in a show entitled "Thinking about the Blues Brothers, from Count Basie to James Brown", conceived by Roberto Favaro and Marco Eugenio Di Giandomenico (son of the great artist, art critic, professor at the Brera Academy in Milan), on the occasion and in overture of the Musical Blues Brothers, directed by Chiara Noschese. After half a century, the refined vocalist Renato Doney has performed some classic pieces, with an intact vocal line, a mix between Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra, with almost confidential tones, like a crooner of the best American tradition.
Renato Di Giandomenico, during the years of his artistic activity, is among the best expressions of jazz music.
